John Follis

As a Madison Ave ad man, John Follis, spent the first years of his career getting fired — 4 times. But then, at 33, he co-founded a Madison Ave agency that became one of the most successful and awarded in the country. His ad work has been covered in the NYT, WSJ, USA Today, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, and a marketing textbook. He’s also had the unique experience of being honored at The White House for a successful public service campaign he spearheaded.

As a successful entrepreneur and thought leader he’s written for ADWEEK and addressed The World Business Academy and Yale Entrepreneurial Institute, among others. But, before all of that, he was fired 4 times in the first 7 years of his career. He also flunked out of his first college advertising class and was told to forget advertising as a career. How he overcame those rejections is one of the stories included in his documentary style short film series entitled, “True Stories in Advertising” on YouTube and Vimeo.
