Oh Shift! It’s the Energy Police

Oh Shift! It’s the Energy Police

Have you ever had that friend who, no matter what kind of a day you had, no matter how grumpy you might be….you hear their voice or see their face, and suddenly you feel much better?

On the other hand…

Have you ever been in a situation where you are feeling good and then your phone rings?  You look down and caller ID shows that friend/co-worker/relative who is always complaining.  Instantly your balloon deflates and you struggle with the thought process…”If I pick up now I’m going to get frustrated.  If I wait, they’ll just keep calling and bugging me anyway.  Maybe I can move and change my number….”

These are energy shifters.  They are people in your life who with their mere presence can infect the way you feel…if you let them.

Other energy shifters include:

  • Listening to music
  • Moving your body
  • Watching the news
  • Meditation
  • Family gatherings

Some of these are positive shifters…they can lift and encourage you.  While others are negative shifters…they can bring you down faster than an anvil on Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote.

The key to happiness is to understand this happens and proactively use the information to enhance your life.  Don’t allow other people or situations to sneak in and steal your joy.  Take back control of how you feel and choose to be around people who make you feel good and engage in activities that raise your energy vibration.  It’s incredibly freeing.

If you are like many of my clients and friends, you like to take things to the next level.  In that case, you can become an energy super hero by actively altering other people’s energy for the better with each interaction. Smiles, warmth, focused attention and appreciation.  Doing so will attract people, business, and opportunities.  It’s a karma thing.

I bet there’s at least one of you out there who is thinking, “Good point, Heather. But HOW?”

The first step is awareness.  Make a mental note of the things that raise and lower your energy.  You’ll know. You can probably tell me right now who in your life is an energy stealer.  It’s your life, so make the decision to reduce the time you spend with that person. (Yes, even if you are related.  That’s why I said reduce not eliminate)

Start to make a list of the things that make you smile, laugh or skip.  You probably used to do them a lot and have let those things slip out of your life under the guise of ‘maturity’.   I pick joyful activity over maturity any day of the week.  Go back to your essence.  Pick up that guitar you used to play.  Make time every day to sing or dance as if no one is watching. Because frankly they aren’t.  And if they are…you’ll be an energy super hero.  It’s hard to remain unbearably crabby while watching someone embracing their joy.  Oh, it’s possible.  Some people have mastered it.  But for the most part people will see you living life full out and the smiles will be contagious.

Make the Shift!  Bring a little fire and joy into your life and inspire those around you to do the same.  Let me know how it goes…
