Shocking

Shocking

Procrastination…Could it be the Fear of Success??

I have a big vision.  A very large, frightening version of my future that I believe was planted in me by something way bigger than you or I.

I believe that because every time I think about it, it scares the hell out of me.  It scares me so much that after it came to me (which it did while walking, like ice water being poured on my body, shocking in the power, extreme detail and invasiveness of the vision)

I immediately went back to my computer and typed in every little detail. Then I mailed it to myself. Mailed it- as in snail mail. With a stamp.

Then I waited 5 years to do anything about it!!

How insane is that?!

Sometimes the fears of failure and rejection can hold a person back.  And sometimes it’s the fear of success. What if…??

“Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. Because success is heavy, carries a responsibility with it, it is much easier to procrastinate and live on the “someday I’ll” philosophy.” — Denis Waitley

Have you ever thought:

  • Time to put the dishes away.
  • I need to revamp the website to make it more appealing to potential new customers.
  • I think I should update my business card with the new logo.
  • I really need to get that closet cleared out…

All THIS.  To avoid picking up the phone and calling a client?  Or to sidestep another important task that could directly result in achieving what you SAY you want to achieve?

Are you afraid that if you succeed the people around you might think of you differently? That others would have higher expectations of you?

Or that (gasp!) you might actually be good, powerful, and amazing? I think this might be the most difficult thing a person has to face. Not that they are inferior. But that they are beautiful and perfect, exactly as they are. That is positively frightening.

Doing the right actions can lead to success. It can lead a person to realize the truth of all they are capable of. That fear is a fear worth facing. A worthy foe that can lead to untold love, kindness, confidence, and splendor in the world.

Let’s do it together.
