Yelena Akelina is a Russian American who was born and raised in Moscow Russia. She immigrated to the US in 1992. Yelena completed her Doctrine of Veterinary Medicine from Moscow Veterinary Academy in 1987 and obtained her Master Science in Toxicology in 1991. Dr. Yelena Akelina has been a Research Scientist and a Director and Instructor in Clinical Microsurgery at the Microsurgery Research and Training lab at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Columbia University since 1996.
Yelena is actively involved in many international societies for plastic and reconstructive surgery. She is one of the founders for the new networking society for microsurgery educators. On the faculty in Queens Mary Hosp in London, Dr. Akelina is also on many international congresses.
She has been married to her husband Sergey for 32 years and they have two happy and successful kids, Maksim and Dasha.
Yelena shares the story of what it took to come to America. She tells what she’s learned, and how the quality of perseverance and the willingness to jump in and say YES to opportunity has served her well. These lessons could help you move from fear to fire!
